Internship Duration: March – June 2026 (excluding holidays & Spring Break)
The Opportunity:The Nevada County Elections Office and Registrar of Voters invite youths aged 14-18 to apply for a rewarding opportunity as a paid student intern! This temporary position will be with the Nevada County Elections Office located in the Nevada County Eric Rood Administrative Building and will report directly to the Registrar of Voters. The duration of the position is mid-March through early June 2026.
Nevada County Elections Office is responsible for promoting and protecting our fundamental right to vote. Under the supervision of the Registrar of Voters, the student intern will assist in informing and engaging the public with information about how and where to vote, voter registrations, vote-by-mail ballots, voter information and more. .
This internship will focus on learning about the requirements and expectations of a Public Information Officer within a County Elections Office leading up to a California Primary Election. It provides an opportunity to acquire hands-on knowledge of a California election, implementing and managing a comprehensive media communications plan, handling deadlines, fundamentals and methods of effective communication, public speaking, marketing, journalism, skill in applying relevant regulation and statutes, principles of current social media, and software applications to build graphics and video production.

Time Commitment:
The intern would work approximately 2 hours per day Tuesday through Friday (2-3 days) each week. will be mid-March to beginning of June, excluding Finals weeks and holidays. A typical schedule would require students to participate from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday through Friday. Monday of each week will be reserved for classroom instruction on the school campus.

Interns who are earning school credit through an educational program may be eligible for a $298.00 stipend per semester, no more than $599.00 per calendar year upon completion of the internship (Board Resolution 21-110).
