Director, Advocacy, Intergovernmental Relations, Public Policy
Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce seeks a highly motivated and engaged Director, Advocacy, Intergovernmental Relations, Public Policy to join our team. This position will be responsible for supporting Greater Rochester Chamber’s advocacy efforts to help reinforce our organization’s role as the Voice of Business in the greater Rochester area and help move the organizational agenda forward. Provides direct support to the CEO with a particular focus on intergovernmental affairs, legislative relations, and advocacy, and fulfilling the mission of Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.

Job Duties:

Monitors and researches public policy-related matters including legislation and community issues impacting Greater Rochester Chamber members

Works in the Rochester region, as well as Albany, and Washington, DC to advocate on behalf of Greater Rochester Chamber members while building strong relationships with area elected officials and their offices

Serves as CEO’s representative at outside forums, on community workgroups, and at meetings with members and/or community representatives as needed

Acts as a “gatekeeper” and shares information with CEO as appropriate; attends meetings with CEO, captures major themes and facilitates any necessary follow up.

Acts as project manager for CEO-initiated projects; conducts research where applicable, works with leadership team and staff to ensure project requirements and deliverables are met; tracks key measures and keeps CEO apprised of progress

Identifies process improvement opportunities, best practices, and cost-saving measures; offers suggestions on how to improve the work environment and streamline efficiencies; works collaboratively with CEO and other senior staff to develop a strong culture at Greater Rochester Chamber.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a Master’s preferred

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a corporate setting focusing on advocacy, legislative relations, and/or government affairs.

At least 2 years of lobbying experience including reporting.
Skills and Qualifications:

Requires a working knowledge of government affairs in the region and around New York State

Strong interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask

Strong, established relationships with local, state, and federal government leaders/staff members

Knowledgeable in the Microsoft suite as well as advocacy software

High level attention to detail and accuracy

Strong communication and organizational skills and able to maintain confidentiality

Ability to effectively communicate in writing, in person, or over the phone and in a timely manner

This is a full-time, exempt level position scheduled to work minimum 37.5 hours per week

Pay range: $95,000-$105,000 annualized salary. This is not a guarantee of compensation or pay rate, as final offer amount may vary based on different factors such as experience.
