Position Summary

To perform a wide variety of duties related to the administration of elections, including processing voter registration and absentee voting materials, maintaining voter registration and polling place records; supporting election operations through related administrative duties; and performing other duties as assigned. Responsibilities range from routine to moderately complex.

Examples of Work Performed

  1. Support with performing the statutory duties of the Ramsey County Auditor as directed by the department’s division manager and supervisors.
  2. Review and process voter registration and absentee ballot applications in the Statewide Voter Registration System; identify and resolve incomplete or incorrect submissions, escalating more complex issues to a supervisor.
  3. Provide election-related information to public by telephone, email, written correspondence, and in-person.
  4. Accept official documents and review for completeness and legal compliance, issue elections-related documents and other materials, and process transactions. 
  5. Assist with the organization, inventory, preparation, and distribution of the supplies and technologies used to conduct elections; prepare and complete orders for delivery and pickup; complete logic and accuracy testing from various technologies used to conduct elections.
  6. Assist with conducting and supporting training sessions for election judges and staff; provide logistical and instructional support to trainers and participants.

(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification.  Regular attendance according to the position’s management approved work schedule is required.)

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.


Experience: One year with customer service experience to include six months of experience as an election’s assistant or an equivalent position in a local, county, state, or federal government office or equivalent in an election related activity.


Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.  


Certifications/Licensure: None.

Exam/Screening Process Information

This is a temporary, at-will position. This position requires an open screening and selection process. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel ActSubdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause. Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301. An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."

This means that Ramsey County will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. If the Government cannot confirm that you are authorized to work, Ramsey County is required to give you written instructions and an opportunity to contact DHS and/or the SSA before taking adverse action against you, including terminating your employment.
