General Description

This is a career opportunity with the Supervisor of Elections Office to help with all major functions of the election process. To include poll worker administration, training, teaching and payroll, creating maintaining and organizing documents and forms, setting up calendars for training classes and schedules for poll workers, learning and training on the set up and use of election equipment, processing petitions, setting up early voting sites, special projects, voter registration, vote-by-mail, proofing documents, creating and maintaining standard operating procedures, and election preparation.  

Please Note: The starting pay range is $17.00 to $22.00 per hour, with the exact rate determined by experience.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with:
    • proofing, editing and/or creating election manuals and video demonstrations for poll worker training.
    • recruiting poll workers and processing hiring paperwork.
    • poll worker administration and teaching training classes.
    • poll worker payroll.
    • developing and maintaining standard operating procedures.
    • warehouse inventory and packing for elections.
    • proofing documents.
    • voter outreach outside the office as needed, including some nights and weekends. 
    • voter registration, including new registrations and updates.
    • processing vote-by-mail requests.
    • budgeting.
    • mail pickup and drop-off
  • Create schedules and agendas for poll worker training classes.
  • Public speaking and engagement with poll workers.
  • Provide coverage for the front counter.
  • Must be able to learn the hardware and software of electronic poll books.
  • Petition verification.
  • Familiarize self with current Election Laws, Rules, Forms, SOE Resources, procedures, and processes.
  • Assist SOE with special projects.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in business, public relations, marketing, technology or related field.  

Or 

  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field of work which includes customer service.
  • Requires an intermediate level of computer skills.


Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  
  • Must have proficiency in general office practices and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to perform public speaking in front of large groups, answering questions quickly, effectively and accurately.
  • Experience within the field of technology, computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and software, including but not limited to, voter registration and electronic poll books.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with elected officials, staff, poll workers, vendors and the public.
  • Effectively working in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and management of shifting priorities.
  • Flexibility and a comfort level in working in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment during election time.
  • Understand and implement Florida Statutes as they apply to election laws.


Other Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a FL driver’s license in good standing.
  • As this position has emergency management responsibilities, applicants must be able to report to work within 30 minutes should an emergency arise.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed during an election cycle.
  • The job involves occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, and balancing, and on occasion crawling, climbing, kneeling, throwing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping and fine manual manipulation, and occasional pushing, pulling, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may require exposure to adverse and/or severe weather conditions.
