About the Position: 

Are you committed to free and fair elections? The Elections Division is seeking a dedicated nonpartisan professional to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll ensure that all voters are treated equally and that election processes remain transparent and non-partisan. We are seeking motivated candidates for an Elections Coordinator position in the Augusta ME office. As an Elections Coordinator, you will work both independently and also on collaborative teams to assist with vital election preparation and voter registration activities, as well as post-election processes and petition certification. Work is performed under limited supervision.  The hours of this position are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in office (not remote) and periodic overtime during peak election and petition certification periods.

In this role, you will: 

  • Assist with coordinating and implementing special projects related to election administration.
  • Gather and analyze election and voter registration data.
  • Evaluate complex or problem election situations in order to support or respond to candidates, groups, the public, and municipal officials.
  • Provide training and guidance to municipal officials.
  • Research, assemble, and report information to assist with problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Conduct testing of tabulation and accessible voting systems.
  • Review and certify candidate and initiative petitions.
  • Analyze and assist with procurement of election supplies.
  • Draft official election materials for municipal officials on election laws and procedures. 
  • Review, revise, draft and proof publications, ballots, and other election materials.
  • Assist with Division ranked choice voting central counts and recounts.

Preferences will be given to candidates who have: 

  • Experience in elections or voter registration administration on a state, county, or local level.
  • Education or experience in public administration or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Title 21-A Election laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated Excel competency

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).

A three (3) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in elections, public administration, or a related field

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions, and successful candidates will be required to complete an I-9 form upon hire. 

The successful candidate must pass a National Criminal Background check, which may include fingerprinting.
