Duties include readying election machines for elections, maintaining laptops used for elections, updating software and performing quarterly wellness checks on each device. Maintaining other electronics and printers, testing and maintaining tabulators, and express vote. Assistance Stations during elections. Receiving applications for voter registration, verifying information, ensuring placement of each voter in correct precinct, ward and/or district. Performs a variety of administrative and public contact work. Responsible for answering phones, assisting with all phases of the elections process, including setting up polling places, training seasonal staff, working with precinct officials, processing voter registration cards, filing candidates for office, recording minutes, assisting voters on election day, and assisting with all aspects of preparation for elections. Provides general support as needed to the Director and Deputy Director of Elections, especially with registration and verification of voter information. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a working knowledge of elections and basic familiarity with voting procedures. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment, including computers. Working knowledge of the operations and functions of County government. Ability to work with accuracy in the entry and verification of voter data. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with precinct officials, news media, County officials, Board members, employees, and the general public. Ability to work considerable overtime during election periods including early mornings, late nights, and weekends for approximately six weeks around each election. Ability to work in high stress situations and ability to quickly implement changes that may arise from legislative changes or court rulings.
Graduation from high school and responsible progressive clerical experience dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Prefer associate degree in public or business administration.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform heavy work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently during elections.
Special Requirements: Willingness and ability to obtain certification from the State Board of Elections. Notary Public Certification or the ability to obtain certification in the time specified by the Board of Elections.
