This is a highly responsible position that advises and assists a variety of customers on matters relating to election administration, including statewide elected officials, legislators, local election authorities, candidates and the general public. Duties are varied with changing priorities and assignments. This employee will be expected to show initiative in working independently and conducting necessary research for assigned projects. The ability to handle multiple deadlines is required. Daily responsibilities and assignments will be supervised by the Director of Elections.

Job Functions and/or General Responsibilities:

  • Respond to telephone and written inquiries from local election authorities, candidates, and the general public.
  • Be familiar with Missouri statutes dealing with election issues, especially Chapter 115 and 116, RSMo, and with federal election laws.
  • Assist with election night reporting, certification of elections, petition filings, candidate filing, and candidate certification.
  • Archiving necessary documents from the Elections Division. Also, familiar with local records and retention schedules.
  • Assists with processing and handling of paperwork associated with petitions.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
  • Work extensively with local election authorities assisting them in elections related matters.
  • Research statistical data and information to be utilized in preparing written materials.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating training programs for local election authorities.
  • Proof posters and materials used by local election authorities and coordinate printing schedules and delivery of such materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Elections.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Missouri's election laws preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with local election authorities and the general public.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of desktop software and/or Internet formatting languages.
  • Ability to write effectively and produce a variety of informational materials.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university preferred or the equivalent combination of education and experience in elections, political science, history, government, or closely related area.
