General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work registering voters, assisting with clerical duties and support in the Elections Office, greeting and assisting visitors and callers, preparing and maintaining voter records and files, preparing precinct supply boxes and assisting with voting terminal testing, and related work as apparent or assigned.? Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Deputy Director of Elections. Assist with other duties as needed or assigned.

The start date for this position is October 1st, 2026.

Essential Functions

  • Political Committee filings and maintenance of committee records
  • GEO code data entry
  • Processes and verifies voter registrations; answers inquiries concerning voter registration laws; prepares, updates and maintains current voter registration records utilizing computer database; verifies accuracy of input information
  • Assist with data input of provisional voters, prepares review for board members.
  • Prepares precinct supply boxes; assists with voting terminal testing. 
  • Processes and mails voter verification and confirmation cards. 
  • Answers incoming calls and assists walk-in customers. 
  • Processes and maintains voter declinations in proper database; maintains Statewide Elections Information Management System update memos; maintains state memorandums. 
  • Scans documents into permanent electronic files; faxes and copies a variety of documents. 
  • Creates labels, forms and signs as needed or directed. 
  • Compiles precinct instruction manuals for precinct workers. 
  • Help maintain inventory 
  • Assists in recruiting precinct officials; prepares and processes accounts payable for precinct worker’s payroll. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience

General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; general knowledge of federal, state and municipal voter registration laws and regulations; general knowledge of voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voting registration lists and records; general knowledge of and ability to operate personal computers, associated hardware, software and peripheral equipment; ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in administrative support and office operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 

Be actively commissioned as a North Carolina Notary Public, or obtain commission within one year of employment.

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
