ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT
The El Dorado County Elections Department is responsible for conducting all federal, state, county, city, school, and special district elections. The Elections Department is also responsible for processing initiative, referenda, recall, and candidate nomination petitions, precinct and district boundary maintenance, and locating polling places that are accessible to all voters.

The Elections Technician I/II series offers a valuable opportunity to build a meaningful career supporting the election process in our county. Whether you are just beginning in the field or looking to advance your experience, this series provides a structured pathway for growth. The Elections Technician I position serves as the entry point, where employees receive hands-on training, develop foundational skills, and gradually progress toward more complex responsibilities. As knowledge and confidence grow, technicians may advance to the Elections Technician II level, a fully qualified journey role characterized by greater independence, broader duties, and increased use of judgment and initiative. This progression allows individuals to develop expertise while contributing to the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of election operations.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Provide detailed, accurate information regarding the election process to candidates, voters, the press and the public.
- Prepare voting systems and equipment for elections; inspect, repair, replace, assemble, operate, and install voting equipment.
- Research, interpret, and explain complex election laws, rules, and regulations.
- Research and compile reports regarding election statistics for the state, other agencies, the public and the press.
- Review absentee ballot requests for signature matches; determine voter eligibility; determine appropriate ballot for each absentee ballot request.
- Coordinate the petition process; advise proponents of guidelines, accepting petitions and reviewing signature counts, etc.
- Identify and sort election and registration documents for records retention.
- Review Voter Registration Cards for proper registration requests; research vital statistics information to eliminate inappropriate or double registrations.

The ideal candidate for the Elections Technician I/II position is a detail-oriented, service-minded individual who is committed to supporting the accuracy and integrity of the election process. They are eager to learn, adaptable, and capable of progressing from foundational tasks to more complex responsibilities as their experience grows. This candidate communicates clearly and professionally with the public, demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and shows sound judgment when interpreting election laws and procedures. They are comfortable working with election equipment, performing record reviews, and managing sensitive voter information with the highest level of confidentiality. Above all, they take pride in ensuring efficient, transparent, and compliant election operations that serve the community with integrity.

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Election Technician I: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of general clerical or office support experience. Experience with the election process is desirable.
Election Technician II: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) year of experience at a level equivalent to the County of El Dorado class of Election Technician I.
License and Certification:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Elections Technician I/II. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
