•    Although prior experience in a specific field is not required, competitive candidates will present clear evidence of strong achievement in rigorous professional settings.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work\: 
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. The primary work location is the State House, with additional travel to the district for constituent meetings and services, as well as occasional travel to other locations across Massachusetts for meetings or events that may include occasional weekend or evening hours.

Salary\: The starting salary for this role will be determined pursuant to the House’s Employee Classification and Compensation Plan, which determines each employee’s appropriate rate of compensation within a role’s pay range based on their House experience.

Agency Overview\: 
The Massachusetts House of Representatives (“House”) is comprised of 160 independently elected Members, each representing a district of approximately 43,000 people.

District Overview: 2nd Barnstable - Consisting of Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13, of the city known as the town of Barnstable, and Precincts 5, 6, and 8A of the town of Yarmouth, both in the county of Barnstable.

Position Overview\: 
The Legislative Aide assists the Member of the House who appointed the Legislative Aide in the discharge of that Member’s official duties by providing communication, legislative, and administrative support services deemed necessary by the Member. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Responsibilities/Essential Functions\: 
• Provide Member with basic administrative support, including, but not limited to, answering phones and taking messages, greeting visitors, scheduling, and other tasks as may be assigned;  
• Manage constituent inquiries and casework, including creation/maintenance of database of constituent requests; 
• Serve as liaison with Member’s constituents; 
• Serve as liaison with federal, local, and other state government offices as directed by the Member; 
• Research and draft responses to constituents, stakeholders, and other interest groups on matters of interest; 
• Draft proposed legislation and amendments on matters of importance to the Member; 
• Monitor and track legislation for the Member; 
• Prepare summaries of legislation and briefing materials on various topics for the Member. 
• Attend meetings and forums on behalf of the Member as directed;  
• Supervise interns and coordinate with the House intern program; and 
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced professional office environment; handle or operate standard office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. 

• Primary work location will be in-district, with State House office days as required.  In-district residency preferred.
