The North Carolina General Assembly is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and highly motivated professional with office experience to serve as a Legislative Services Office Assistant. An Office Assistant provides front office administrative services and support to both House and Senate Legislative Offices and non-partisan divisions. The primary responsibility of the Office Assistant is to provide receptionist and clerical support for offices in need of daily or weekly coverage, ensuring efficient operation and workflow. The office assignments vary from day to day and/or week to week, offering variety and new challenges. This support position is unique in that it offers the opportunity to work at the branch of government that is responsible for making, revising, and repealing North Carolina laws. The Office Assistant will serve in a non-partisan capacity, meaning not biased or partisan towards one political party while in the office.
Job responsibilities may include the following:
Receptionist Duties
Provides general legislative information to legislators, legislative staff, and the public.
Office Support Duties
Business Communication - Answers the multi-line telephone, screens and forwards calls, takes messages, and responds to emails. Drafts and organizes written and verbal communications.
Office Scheduling - Maintains calendars, schedules, and confirms appointments for legislators and staff.
Mail Processing - Sorts and distributes the office’s incoming mail and materials.
Record-Keeping - Establishes and maintains filing systems for records and correspondences.
Project Assistance - Coordinates and provides assistance on projects as needed.
Office Equipment - Operates office equipment and new technologies as they are developed and implemented.
The Office Assistant will report directly to the Human Resources Office. When on assignment, the Office Assistant works under either the Legislative Assistant Director’s Office or individual division or office management authorities. The work schedule is 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, typically within the hours of 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., but hours may vary slightly given the office location. The position also requires the ability to be extremely flexible, occasionally working extended hours and weekends to meet the needs of the legislative session.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate, plus at least two years of related office administrative experience.
