Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, political science, public administration, criminal justice, education, communications, or a related field; or
- A combination of education and relevant professional experience deemed equivalent.
Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:- Experience in public policy, legislative affairs, government, program development, education, community outreach, or a related field;
- Experience researching legislation, laws, public policy, or governmental programs;
- Experience developing or implementing programs, public awareness campaigns, educational materials, or community initiatives;
- Strong research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills;
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear information for different audiences;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate initiatives involving multiple stakeholders;
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to changing Department priorities.
Job Specification

The Policy and Legislative Coordinator is responsible for researching, developing, coordinating, and supporting policy, legislative, and public education initiatives of the Louisiana Department of Justice.
The position works with Department leadership, governmental agencies, community partners, and other stakeholders to develop programs and initiatives addressing emerging issues and priorities of the Department. Responsibilities include policy research and development, legislative support, program planning and implementation, development of educational materials and campaigns, and tracking the effectiveness and compliance of assigned initiatives.
Current areas of focus include opioid and drug prevention initiatives, youth online and cellphone safety, and other policy priorities established by the Attorney General and Department leadership.
Job Duties and Other Information

The position will be responsible to:
- Research, develop, and coordinate policy initiatives and special projects established by the Department;
- Develop implementation, tracking, and compliance plans for assigned initiatives and monitors progress toward established goals;
- Support drug and opioid prevention efforts, including development and coordination of initiatives associated with the One Pill Can Kill campaign and related public awareness efforts;
- Research drug trends, prevention strategies, applicable laws, and available data to assist with the development of Department policies and programs
- Develop and coordinate a youth-focused curriculum and public education campaign addressing online safety, responsible cellphone and social media use, online threats, and other emerging risks affecting children and teenagers;
- Develop educational materials, presentations, guidance documents, toolkits, and other resources for schools, parents, community organizations, law enforcement, and other stakeholders;
- Coordinate with schools, state and local agencies, law enforcement, community organizations, and other partners to support implementation of Department initiatives;
- Research proposed legislation, laws, regulations, and policy developments affecting assigned program areas;
- Assist with reviewing and tracking legislation relevant to Department initiatives and prepares summaries, research, talking points, briefing materials, and other information for leadership;
- Assist with the development and implementation of new programs, campaigns, and policy initiatives as priorities are established by the Department;
- Track program activities, participation, outcomes, and other relevant information and prepare reports and recommendations for leadership;
- Identify emerging issues, trends, and best practices and recommend opportunities for new or improved Department initiatives;
- Coordinate meetings, presentations, outreach activities, trainings, and other events associated with assigned programs;
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with governmental agencies, schools, law enforcement, community organizations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders;
- Represent the Department at meetings, working groups, conferences, community events, and other functions as assigned;
- Perform other duties and special projects as directed.
