About the Job
The Public Affairs Manager is a strategic, relationship-driven, and highly collaborative professional to serve as our Public Affairs K–12 Education Manager. This full-time, exempt role focuses on empowering Jewish parents, supporting educators and school district leadership, and coordinating community-wide efforts to advance accurate, inclusive education about Judaism, Jewish identity, Israel, and antisemitism.
This position reports directly to the Public Affairs Director and centers on partnerships with parents, K–12 administrators, educators, district leadership, and community organizations. The Manager will steward and expand Shalom Austin’s rapidly growing K–12 education portfolio—including parent engagement, educator training, district advocacy, and large-scale initiatives such as our Texas Education Leaders Summit in partnership with iTREK.
The ideal candidate is an educator at heart, a coalition-builder in practice, and a skilled communicator who can move seamlessly between parents, school districts, and community partners.
You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
Essential functions:
Parent Empowerment & Community Engagement
- Lead and expand Shalom Austin’s parent-facing programs, including the Parent Engagement Series, Parent Advocacy Corps, and town halls with district leadership.
- Equip parents with tools and resources to address antisemitism, celebrate Jewish identity, and participate meaningfully in school events such as culture days and holiday programs.
- Build community among Jewish parents across campuses and districts, helping them connect, organize, and advocate.
Professional Development & Educator Support
- Design and deliver trainings for K–12 teachers, principals, district administrators, and campus staff on antisemitism, Jewish identity, Israel education, and inclusive practices.
- Serve as a resource and thought partner to educators and school leaders seeking to strengthen safety, belonging, and understanding for Jewish students.
- Coordinate workshops with partner organizations (e.g., ADL, IAC, Holocaust education partners).
District & School Partnership Development
- Cultivate strong working relationships with superintendents, school boards, DEI leaders, curriculum staff, and campus administrators across Central Texas.
- Assess district needs, identify opportunities for collaboration, and proactively bring forward resources and programming.
- Represent Shalom Austin at education forums, community coalitions, district convenings, and school-based events.
Community Coordination & Resource Alignment
- Maintain and expand a directory of vetted curricula, speakers, and partners relevant to Jewish identity, antisemitism, and Israel education.
- Serve as liaison between schools and organizations such as ADL, AJC, Israeli American Council, StandWithUs, Holocaust education institutions, and others.
- Ensure clear coordination among Jewish communal partners to reduce duplication and maximize impact.
Policy Advocacy & District-Level Influence
- Support Shalom Austin Public Affairs in advancing district-level and state-level efforts related to antisemitism education, Holocaust Remembrance Week implementation, calendar considerations for Jewish holidays, tracking and responding to incidents of Antisemitism.
- Collaborate closely with Public Affairs Department and other relevant youth and teen departments across Shalom Austin to ensure alignment across Shalom Austin’s policy and advocacy priorities.
Internal Collaboration & Organizational Engagement
- Work closely with the full Public Affairs team to align K–12 work with broader community relations and government affairs strategies.
- Partner with other Shalom Austin departments on events, communications, and community engagement efforts.
- Contribute to organizational data tracking, evaluation, and reporting systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
