Senior Government Affairs Officer - Hybrid

The Senior Government Affairs Officer is directly responsible for deepening the connection between local ministry leaders and caregivers and advocacy by leading advocacy efforts at the local level. The position oversees local engagement of ministry leaders with local and regional public officials and supports Providence St. Joseph Health's positioning in the local community. The position is also accountable for ensuring Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) leadership is aware of local and regional policies and activities that will impact the organization's operations or strategic direction. The position also supports the state advocacy function of the department.

This role will work three days a week on site at our locations in Seattle and Renton.

Essential functions of this role include:

  • Working in coordination with the Executive Director, Government Affairs to develop and execute a local advocacy and public affairs strategy that supports local ministry needs.
  • Develops, maintains and manages the organization’s relationships with key external partners, stakeholders and constituencies in support of advocacy goals. Ensures compliance with all policies, laws and legal requirements on lobbying activities.
  • Implements and maintains effective communication structures to inform PSJH leaders about state and local policy issues. This includes providing educational presentations to internal audiences on government affairs and the development of briefing materials and talking points.
  • Acts as a key strategic resource for operations leaders and business development/strategy professionals, sharing state and local policy to support direction setting and increased performance levels.
  • Develops a deep connection between PSJH leaders and external policy makers by supporting advocacy visits to local ministries, and at the state and federal levels.
  • Engages in direct advocacy and community wide relationship building on behalf of the organization.
  • Supports advocacy visits to local ministries and at the state and federal levels.
  • Serves as a strategic partner to local leadership in conjunction with the state advocacy team.
  • Builds local relationships to support local advocacy issues.
  • Maintains customer-focused tools to support the work of the Government Affairs Department including: bill tracking tools, talking points, self-service functions (including online resources), presentations, one-pagers and direct guidance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Law, Political Science, Business, Communications, Government, or Health Administration.
  • 8 or more years of work experience in legislative or regulatory activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
