Have strong knowledge and experience working with the media is essential. Strong collaborative and verbal communications skills are necessary, as this position requires frequent interaction with other Gilead departments, senior management, and the media.

Must have strong experience with public relations tactics and resources and the relationship of those tactics to other department roles and functions, including marketing, medical affairs and investor relations. Additionally, the Manager must have a strong familiarity with FDA and SEC regulations and the application of those regulations to moderately complex corporate communications.

 Experience evaluating, selecting and working with external vendors and independently managing timelines and budgets for multiple projects simultaneously. A strong understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry is necessary. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.


Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • The Sr. Manager is responsible for moderately complex corporate communications and selects product public relations programs within the Public Affairs group.
  • Developing and implementing corporate and/or product media relations strategy to support the company’s positioning within the industry and among its target audiences, drawing upon strong knowledge of communications practices and vehicles and internal company resources.
  • Additionally, the Senior Manager collaborates and regularly participates as a member of cross-functional teams with senior-level colleagues to develop and implement moderately complex strategies and programs to meet the company’s goals.
  • Must be able to examine moderately complex issues from a broader organization perspective, make recommendations to management and determine priorities within the Public Affairs group.
  • In addition to drafting and distributing news releases, presentations and supporting communications materials regularly, with minimal oversight, the Senior Manager will independently present ideas and initiate programs to meet the company’s public relations goals.
  • The Senior Manager will oversee moderately complex projects and budgets for Gilead’s external PR agencies and may oversee execution of projects by other Public Affairs team members. The Manager periodically represents Gilead in interviews with the media and in meetings with other key external audiences, including physicians and patient groups.

Education & Experience Requirements:


Requires a BA degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and minimum 8 years of relevant experience, which includes 6-8 years of experience specific to this position.


 

The salary range for this position is: $146,540.00 - $189,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
