We are seeking a Western Government Affairs Director to join our Development Team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive state policy strategy in the Western region that positions Jupiter’s significant development portfolio for success, including advancing favorable policies related to offtake opportunities and permitting. The successful candidate will be an experienced government relations professional with strong leadership, problem-solving, and energy policy expertise. This individual will have experience building broad-based coalitions for clean energy initiatives and a proven track record of advancing multifaceted policy agendas across several jurisdictions at the state and local levels. The candidate will also be skilled at marshalling the talent of internal and external teams to execute successful project campaigns.


This role will be based out any of Jupiter’s offices (Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, or Houston, TX), and is subject to our Company’s return-to-office policy which currently requires a minimum of three days a week in the office. A Mountain West or Pacific Northwest location will be considered for exceptional candidates. 



Key Responsibilities  

 

Advocacy
 

  • Lead state policy and political activities related to project development and origination/commercial activities for Jupiter’s priority projects in the Western states.  
  • Represent Jupiter with decisionmakers (e.g., governor’s offices, state and local elected officials, regulators, relevant agencies) in support of key projects.  
  • Build and lead campaigns specific to Jupiter’s projects, including marshaling diverse coalitions of stakeholders in support of key initiatives. Campaigns will focus on aligning state policies with successful project development and unlocking commercial opportunities.  
  • Identify, engage, and manage internal and external teams in support of project campaigns and development priorities, and manage day-to-day work product of project teams as it relates to policy and campaigns.  


 

Thought leadership
 

  • Position Jupiter as a thought leader on energy policy across priority Western states.  
  • Build relationships and advocate for Jupiter’s state and local priorities within trade associations and other industry spaces as needed to support the company’s project development priorities.  
  • Educate key stakeholders and decisionmakers on Jupiter and the benefits of standalone battery energy storage.  


 

Cross-team collaboration
 

  • Work closely with and maintain understanding of activities and needs of cross-functional project teams (Development, Transmission, Origination, etc.) as they relate to policy priorities for the Western states.  
  • Coordinate with Regulatory and Communications teams to ensure consistency across Jupiter’s policy initiatives and engagement with trade associations and other industry stakeholders.   

 

 

Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in policy, communications, legal or a related field.   
  • 5+ years’ experience leading energy policy and state and local campaigns.   
  • Independent work ethic/self-motivation and demonstrated leadership acumen, ideally previously in a development role overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.   
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate complex policy concepts for a wide array of audiences.  
  • Ability to proactively build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and effectively represent Jupiter’s interests.   
  • Ability to work in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.  
  • Willingness and ability to travel 40%, or more, of the time to fulfill position responsibilities; and   
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.   

 

 

Compensation & Benefits  

$160,000 - $210,000 

  

This pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Jupiter Power considers a number of factors when determining starting compensation such as the position requirements and the candidate's qualifications.  

  

In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus and equity programs.
