Hennepin County’s Elections department is seeking to fill temporary Elections Assistant positions to support voter registration data entry and management of voter records. These positions will consist of a mix of data entry and other administrative duties as assigned to support program areas throughout the Elections department. The Elections Assistant support staff must be non-partisan and be able to provide excellent customer service, use technical and analytical skills, and perform a variety of clerical and administrative functions.
The Elections department is looking for individuals who are interested in election administration and government processes. The Hennepin County Elections department is responsible for the administration and supervision of all federal, state, and local elections in the county and 800,000 registered voters.
Candidates Bilingual in English, Somali, Spanish, Oromo, Hmong, American or Universal Sign Language are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual duties and pay.

Location and hours:These positions are located at 625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. Occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime may be required. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

These are limited duration (temporary) full-time, benefit-earning positions lasting through the 2026 election cycle, starting June 29, 2026, and expected to end in January 2027.
These positions are internally classified as Office Specialist III.

In these positions, you will:
- Perform data entry by processing paper and/or electronic voter registration applications.
- Process a high volume of time sensitive election material.
- Perform quality control checks.
- Perform post-election tasks including election day registration data entry and records maintenance.
- Support department program areas as needed.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Two or more years of office clerical experience.
Completion of two or more years of post-high school education.
An approved combination of education (3 semester credits = 1 month) and experience to equal two years or more.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- Using the Statewide Voter Registration System.
- Performing data entry from paper and/or electronic documents into a computer system.
- Using Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to:
- Follow instructions completely and accurately.
- Work in accordance with Minnesota statutes and rules.
- Demonstrate teamwork skills working with diverse groups of people.
- Work in a non-partisan manner, at all times.
- Work independently and meet daily deadlines.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Use problem solving techniques to complete daily work.
- Understand and apply basic elections procedures fairly and impartially.
- Knowledge of basic elections procedures, and Minnesota election statutes and rules.

Hennepin County Elections works with partners at the federal, state, and local level to provide voting services to over one million eligible county residents in over 400 polling places throughout the county. Program areas include voter registration, absentee voting, voter education and engagement, local election clerk training, voting technology, election day operations, results reporting and certification, recounts and audits, candidate filing, campaign finance reporting, violation investigations, and elections data stewardship.
