We provide assistance to low to moderate income families to help address their most critical needs.  The agency has over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services.

Internship Description

Wayne Metro seeks a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a passion for data, family services, and community engagement. This internship provides hands-on experience in ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance), offering an excellent opportunity to develop skills in program operations, compliance, and data management.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the ERSEA team to support enrollment processes, maintain accurate data, and assist with recruitment and attendance initiatives while gaining exposure to federal Head Start requirements.

 

Interns Essential Functions: 

ERSEA Operations & Data Management (50%)

  • Assist with reviewing applications for completeness and eligibility requirements
  • Support data entry and maintenance in ChildPlus
  • Help track enrollment, vacancies, and waitlist status to support full enrollment goals
  • Monitor and update attendance records, ensuring accuracy and follow-up documentation
  • Assist with generating reports related to enrollment, attendance, and recruitment
  • Conduct file reviews to ensure compliance with Office of Head Start (OHS) Performance Standards 

Recruitment, Outreach & Family Engagement (50%)

  • Support planning and coordination of recruitment events (e.g., Preschool Round-Ups, community outreach events)
  • Assist with distributing recruitment materials and engaging with community partners
  • Collaborate with Family Advocates to support family engagement and follow-up
  • Help develop outreach strategies to maintain a strong enrollment pipeline
  • Provide support during events, including setup, coordination, and family assistance
  • Assist with tracking recruitment efforts and outcomes for reporting purposes

Qualified candidates:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
  • Interest in early childhood programs and family services
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage data accurately
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office; experience with databases like ChildPlus is a plus)
  • Previous experience with community outreach, data entry, or program support is a plus 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.

 



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule
