We are seeking a Family Selection Manager to lead and own our applicant underwriting process from end to end. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring we are selecting qualified families efficiently, equitably, and in alignment with our homebuilding pipeline.

 

This role goes beyond supervising a team—you will design, manage, and continuously improve the full underwriting system, ensuring the right families are ready at the right time for homeownership.

Essential Functions:
Program Management & Leadership

  • Lead the full lifecycle of applicant underwriting:
    • Application intake and review
    • Income, credit, and affordability analysis
    • Final approval and decisioning
  • Establish and maintain clear, consistent underwriting standards
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex or exception cases

 

Drive Pipeline Performance

  • Manage and optimize the applicant pipeline to align with construction and closing timelines
  • Monitor key performance metrics including:
    • Application-to-approval cycle time
    • Approval rates and fallout trends
    • Readiness for home placement
  • Ensure a steady flow of qualified, prepared homebuyers

 

Lead with Data

  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to track pipeline health and underwriting outcomes
  • Provide regular insights to leadership on performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Use data to identify bottlenecks and continuously improve processes

 

Ensure Compliance & Integrity

  • Serve as the affiliate’s BSA and SAFE Act compliance lead
  • Maintain high-quality documentation and audit-ready files


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting, lending, or housing eligibility
  • 3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills (income, debt, credit review)
  • Experience managing workflows, pipelines, and performance metrics
  • Ability to obtain Qualified Loan Originator Certification (ABA) within 90 days.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in affordable housing or nonprofit lending programs
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Smartsheet, or similar systems
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, or forecasting models
  • Proficiency in Spanish to effectively support our growing Latin American population

Work Environment

  • This position requires working indoors in an office setting, driving between locations within the HCR’s service area in all types of weather, and visiting New Home and Existing Home sites in all types of weather. 

Occasional evenings and Saturdays for outreach or events

  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time 
  • Ability to lift/pull up to 40lbs unassisted occasionally 
  • Ability to visit construction sites at varied stages of development including homes that may have stairs 
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle 
  • Ability to communicate in person, over phone and/or computer
