Qualifications: 

  • BA or BS from accredited college or university required. 
  • Strong interest in social services, poverty and other social issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and research skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative setting with people of diverse backgrounds/circumstances (and maintain confidentiality of materials and information).
  • Must be computer literate in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment.

 

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:


  • Under the guidance of the Sr. Director, advance JFSLA advocacy on a portfolio of issues related to the JFS mission and government partnerships.
  • Research and assist in the development of policy briefs, fact sheets and letters
  • Maintain and steward high-quality relationships and partnerships with appropriate governmental agencies and legislative staff.
  • Monitor and report on pending legislation and funding streams.
  • Represent Jewish Family Service in local and state coalitions.
  • Provide support to Senior Director of Public Policy & Government Relations on additional advocacy issues as necessary. 
  • Engage a broader community of activists on behalf of JFS clients.
  • Implement outreach plans in coordination with the Senior Director and other departments
  • Assist in the creation of content for JFS communications including e-newsletter, social media outlets, action alerts and other external communications, as needed.
  • Support the Senior Director in planning and administering Public Policy Committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, creation of minutes, materials, and follow up action items.
  • Coordinate site visits, local briefings; travel arrangements, logistics and related administrative preparation as needed.
  • Provide operational support to the Senior Director, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, organizing Public Policy folders, preparing briefing materials, maintaining records and contact databases, tracking advocacy activities, processing correspondence and check requests, and ensuring timely follow-up on key initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned
